Blogging is a concept that started in late 90s.  It used to be a way to comment an existing webpage, an opportunity for visitors and readers to react or voice out one’s opinion on the said page.

What started as a single-sentence commentary has evolved into pages of personal take on just about anything and everything under the sun.  As it continues to move forward, online advertising has tapped into the blog’s potential.

Here are 5 reasons why you should use blogging as an Internet marketing tool.
1.Blogging is simple.  The simplest way to get your piece on the net is through blogging.  No skills are necessary… an average adult can read and type, or at least click a mouse.  It’s like having a virtual piece of paper and you just write your ideas, experiences, new products, and hope that the truth behind your articles comes out and entice your reader to also try your product.  If you have a PC and an Internet connection (who doesn’t?) then you can blog and advertise.

2. Blogging is authentic.  In this day and age where advertising saturate our lives, we question the credibility of promoters’ claims.  However, in blogs, real people share their real-life experiences, unscathed by paid advertising.  Reading blogs about first-hand product use is like talking to people about their first-hand experience.  You definitely want to buy a tried and tested product.

3. Blogging is free.  Because blogging is yet to be proven as a mainstream online advertising media, most sites see it as something to augment current marketing tools and thus offer it for free.   Any opportunity for free webtime is definitely a bonus especially to businesses that are starting up.  Needless to say, paid blog pages can generate more income for your seriously growing business.

4. Blogging builds credibility.  As you get more and more into writing your experiences on a particular product or industry, your readers come to realize that they can depend on your posts for their own information needs.  As such, you become an expert on it; as a consequence, more readers visit your site and more bloggers link to your blogs.  As companies and professional organizations notice the growth of your readership base, they may soon get in touch with you for advertising on your blog page, or make you an affiliate, which pays for every referral generated from your blog site.

5. Blogging builds your market.  Unless you are a Hollywood star, chances are, only your Mom reads your posts.  Mom has a lot of friends, so she lets her friends know how interesting your blog site is.  But you need not depend on Mom to increase your readership base.

It is the search engines that finally bring your website to the notice of the prospective customers. Hence it is better to know how these search engines actually work and how they present information to the customer initiating a search. By knowing and understanding the search engine concept you will drive more targeted traffic to your website, thus improving your wealth!     Let us discuss the one of the main types of search engines. They are called robots known as crawlers or spiders.  Search Engines use spiders to index websites. When you submit your website pages to a search engine by completing their required submission page, the search engine spider will index your entire site. A ‘spider’ is an automated program that is run by the search engine system. Spider visits a web site, read the content on the actual site, the site’s Meta tags and also follow the links that the site connects. The spider then returns all that information back to a central depository, where the data is indexed. It will visit each link you have on your website and index those sites as well. Some spiders will only index a certain number of pages on your site, so don’t create a site with 500 pages! The spider will periodically return to the sites to check for any information that has changed. The frequency with which this happens is determined by the moderators of the search engine. By updating the information on your website regularly this will ensure that the spider returns and updates the information held at the central depository. A spider is almost like a book where it contains the table of contents, the actual content and the links and references for all the websites it finds during its search, and it may index up to a million pages a day. Example:  Excite, Lycos, AltaVista and Google. When you ask a search engine to locate information, it is actually searching through the index which it has created and not actually searching the Web. Different search engines produce different rankings because not every search engine uses the same algorithm to search through the indices. Remember the search engines do change their algorithms frequently so you must ensure your website is up to date and current. One of the things that a search engine algorithm scans for is the frequency and location of keywords on a web page, but it can also detect artificial keyword stuffing or spamdexing. This is a defiant no no! Google will put your website into the sandbox if it detects that you are stuffing your site full of keywords. Then the algorithms analyze the way that pages link to other pages in the Web. By checking how pages link to each other, an engine can both determine what a page is about, if the keywords of the linked pages are similar to the keywords on the original page.

Using Traffic exchanges as part of your traffic plan is a

no brainer. I myself use them each and every day to promote my businesses. I have found through trial and error that there are a number of excellent Traffic Exchange owners who take pride in their business.

I actually met one of these owners at a seminar in England October 2007. His name is Paul Kinder the owner/operator of Traffic-Splash. Over the course of 4 days I found myself in his company discussing the benefits of using a free or low cost advertizing company to sell my business.

I have listed below some of the benefits of using a Free/Low cost Traffic Exchange as part of your traffic plan.

1.    They’re an inexpensive –often free- method generating targeted traffic to your website/blog.

2.    You will start seeing an increase in traffic almost immediately. No waiting weeks or months to see results, as is often the case with other forms of advertizing. This can only be a Win Win situation for your business.

3.    They can be a great way to test ad copy for use with other more expensive forms of advertizing such as Pay Per Click campaigns (PPC). This will allow you to make sure your traffic plan is working before you think about paying.

4.    You can build a “downline” by referring others, which allows you to more quickly earn credits. Over time your traffic can be almost entirely generated by the efforts of others. Thus allowing you more free time!

5.    You will gain exposure to your competitor’s products and services. This will give you some good ideas for promoting your website/blog. Enabling you to increase your bottom line!

On returning from the seminar I put into action a new traffic plan including the use of Traffic-Splash which I initially used to test my new splash pages and banners. When I found what worked I then use the information to drive my PPC campaigns.

I continue to use Traffic-Splash plus a number of reliable Exchanges on a daily basis.

There is so much information out there regarding the use of blogs in helping you to grow your business. I myself have been using blogs for sometime in helping me to attain my business goals.

Did you know that if your blog is not set up correctly to make it more search engine friendly then there is a very good chance that it may never get indexed by Google, MSN or any of the other search engines! Your hard work would have been in vain.

When I looked into how to set up my blog correctly I came across such terms as perma link structure, Google site maps, Technorati tags and many more unfamiliar terms. I was told that you must make sure these are all set up to ensure a quick response from the search engines.

I searched around for this information and managed to articles that related to the information that I needed. However a lot of these articles were written with the programmer in mind. I am no programmer so could not follow the instructions.

Fortunately I am a member of Affiliate Funnel if you want to know more about what they do just click on the link in the side panel and have a look. One of the benefits of A.F. is that they have a free seminar every Saturday Night. I made the great decision to listen to one of these seminar’s where a talk was given my Mr Mike Paetzold a well know WordPress Expert.

He explained amongst other things all the information that I had been looking for previously. I subsequently got his 7 tips to making your wordpress blog search engine friendly and have seen Great results in the increased amount of traffic I get to my blog!

If you are of the same mind as me then click on the link in the side panel and have a look at his offer. You will not be disappointed.

Wishing you every success with your business

Most hosts offer storage space for web pages with global public access to those pages over the Internet along with a limited form of program execution known as Common Gateway Interface or “cgi-bin” for short.

Depending on the type of server will depend on the operating system the most common being Apache over Linux. Apache responds to web page requests from remote browsers while Linux is one of several variants of the UNIX operating system. Hosting companies operate by providing customers their own password protected user id under Linux. By logging in with his user id, the customer gains access to his web storage space. Every user id “owns” a structure of disk subdirectories in the Linux file system. The “root” of this structure is the “home” directory, found at path “/home/user id.” Note that this is somewhat similar to the MS-DOS directory structure; except that there is no drive letter and forward slashes are used instead of backward slashes. When you FTP to your account using your domain name and user id, you don’t need to put in “home/user id.” You will automatically be taken there. Inside the home directory are many files and other directories. The most important one is named “www” or”public html” however, it is important you do not delete any directories in the root. Every customer has his own separate “www” subdirectory. Files placed in the “www” directory are visible to remote browsers over the Internet, so this is where you want to place all your html documents, graphics, sounds, files, etc. which you want people to be able to access from the world wide web. For example, when a browser asks for URL http://yourdomain.com/page.html, Apache looks for the file: /home/yourdomain/www/page.html and sends it out.

I appreciate that all this may be overwhelming to you at this time. It was to me the first time I looked at my cpanel. However I found the following programme that helped explain to me in easy to follow steps how to conquer my fear of using cpanel. To think how much money I spent before finding this programme just make me shudder. Go and have a look at the video programme it will help you in your business and budget.
